The main theme of the Award is biodiversity in Guyana, its conservation and threats. Journalists are invited to submit published stories that have covered any aspect of biodiversity in Guyana, including:

• Harvest and trade of non-timber forest products
• Environmental policy
• Environmental education

• Issues in communities near protected areas or biodiversity-rich regions
• Climate change and the impact in biodiversity
