Awards
First Prize
The winner will be awarded a Cash award of G$160,000 Guyana Dollars, and given the unique opportunity to visit the home of the Wai Wai peoples in the pristine rainforest of the Konashen District, in Southern Guyana.
The area is difficult to access and very few outsiders have ever visited it. Species such as the Giant River Otter, Cock-of-the-Rock, Harpy Eagle, Jaguar, Giant River Turtle and the Scarlet macaw live and thrive in this rainforest.
The Wai Wais, the Government of Guyana and Conservation International Guyana have been working together to establish a Community Owned Conservation Area in the District. This will represent a merger of the traditional knowledge of Guyana's people with the expertise of an international organization, in order to better preserve Guyana's treasure, its rich natural resources.
In addition, the winner will be honored during an official ceremony, receive a trophy and one year free membership with the International Federation of Environmental Journalists (IFEJ).
